Workout Wednesdays // Step Goals.

I’ve talked a lot about how I love to walk. It’s relaxing, therapeutic, and is a great way to exercise. And while it is great to hit the gym and lift weights and all that other awesome stuff, I have to remind myself that I’m starting from the ground up when it comes to… just about everything. Especially working out and staying healthy.

As I mentioned in my goals yesterday, I’m creating stepping stones to the me I really want to be. My real fitness goals would be going to the gym 4x a week, cutting out all junk food, most starchy carbs, all soft drinks, be flexible, gain muscle, and enhance my endurance. But I’m not going to change all of that this month. Or this year, and probably not for a while.

It’s a lifestyle change.

What I can do is cut out soda this month. I can also set a new step goal and make sure to achieve it everyday!

I have a Fitbit Charge and I love it. I love that it’s a watch, has alarms and helps me keep track how often I’m on the move. Right now on a normal weekend, I will walk about 3,000 steps a day. My current goal during the week has been to hit 7,000 steps a day, and maybe once a week I’d reach that. Ever since I started my teaching job though, I have been crushing that. Usually I’ll hit 9,000-12,000 on a normal day running around the school!

For me, hitting 10,000 steps is almost 5 miles, a good amount of calories, and is the perfect new step goal for myself this month. Even though it might not be a challenge for me now at my job, it is still a great starting point and goal for me to reach. But that counts for weekends too, which will push me to get off my butt more. By next week I hope to see all those bars green in the diagram below!

All in all, it will be the next step towards a better, healthier life, and something that I can and am excited to accomplish.
